Homework

Welcome to the homework page!

How our homework happens!
If you ask 10 parents for their thoughts about homework you will hear (mostly) three answers.
1.  We're really busy in the afternoons and I'd prefer there to be none set.
2.  I would like some set but would like flexibility for when it's done.
3.  I want to develop good work habits and have homework for every day.

So... you can never please everyone - however, I do try.  The homework for Matai is 'flexible'.  It can be as much or as little as you would like to make it.  Below is an outline of the homework available and it is negotiable between you and your child.

If you'd like to create a contract between home and school (an understanding of how much will be done) I'm also willing to chat about this further.

 Maths
1. Work on the step not yet climbed
         - use the Basic Facts  Links blog to practise
         - get your family to test you
         - use some home made flash-cards
2.  See Mr Herring for a quick test when you think you're ready
3.  Climb one step on our success ladder when you've passed
4.  Work on the next step

Here's an online copy of the ladder and our Basic Facts Blog with lots of practice games!

There are also set tasks assigned to your students account on Studyladder - an online website with interactive maths activities that fit beautifully with our classroom programme!  Ask you child to show you around - they earn points for good work and receive instant feedback on their progress. (much better than any worksheet I've ever seen!)

        Spelling
1.  Find at least 12 words to learn each week and write them in your homebooks.
          - 6 from your own writing
          - 6 from your Rocket list
2.  Complete 2 activities from your Rocket Programme sheet
3.  Have a test with Mr Herring when you have learnt your level and move onto the next step!

        Reading
1.  Have a book you enjoy reading.
2.  Spend 15 minutes (at least) reading after school night.
3.  Record your reading in your homebook reading log

           Other options...
 - organise and prepare your Jibboo business with your business partners
 - write on your blog and comment on others
 - work on your personal investigation  (We'll be starting these at a later date) or special project for class! - see our eUpdates for info on these!)
